We as a community haven’t come together and decided on a common set of outcomes for undergraduate research. Is it just bench research, does it include the social sciences, do we respect what our colleagues in psychology do and our colleagues in sociology do as research? And the humanities even, do we respect what they do in undergraduate research? So I think that this is more symptomatic of the larger issue that we’re discussing here. And undergraduate research is only a small, to go back to the earlier commitment… the earlier comment rather, that we look at this holistically that undergraduate research is probably a small piece of what we are talking about in terms of looking very broadly at metrics by which we are going to hold institutions or hold PIs accountable for the kinds of experiences the students are getting regardless of the institution type where they happen to be.
