CORPORATE & ACADEMIC WORLDS

So let’s talk about the differences between the corporate world and the academic world. In one sense they’re very much alike; all institutions share certain characteristics. You know an institution, a university or a company be it a big company or a small one, a large private research one institution or a small liberal arts institution or a historically Black college, all share the trait that they are… an institution has an identity which is more than some of the people that make it up. And as all of you will have known in your careers, the interests of the institution and the interest of the individual can sometimes be at odds in both academia and in the corporate world.

However, the main difference between these two types of institutions is how they are governed. A CEO runs the company. When a CEO says we’re going to do something, it starts to happen.
